Home again, home again

By Goddess in Progress ·   April 13th, 2008

We survived our whirlwind trip to Florida (a place that is pretty near the top of the “states I’ll never live in” list). Literally, it was just over 49 hours between landing and taking off again. Insanity. How many visits did we cram into those two short days? Let’s see… M’s mom, M’s dad, M’s grandmother, M’s mom’s brother and sister-in-law, M’s dad’s sister and brother-in-law, my mom, my stepdad, my stepdad’s sister, M’s grandmother’s former neighbor… and all of the old ladies at the condo complex. (Who asked me, among other things, if I “gained a lot of weight” when I was pregnant, and of the twins, “which is the better one?” Um, excuse me?)

The kiddos did really quite well. Good on the plane on the way down. So-so on the napping. Daniel was somewhat fussier than usual for much of the weekend, given all of the stimulation and the lack of good napping, but in general they both were great. Rebecca was just a funny little monkey, putting on a show for everyone all weekend long. Daniel even slept nearly the entire flight on the way home! Wahoo!

IMG_0271 I’m really tired, and I can hear on the monitor that Rebecca isn’t sleeping that well after her crazy weekend. But I guess I have to say it was worth it, because it sure did make M’s parents, and grandmother in particular, awfully happy to see them.

And now, of course, there’s talk of all variety of upcoming visits to our place. My mom is hoping to come soon, M’s mom needs to come up not only to visit, but to pick up a friend’s cat that is being given to M’s grandmother for company. My dad will be in town this weekend, as will my grandmother. Just watch, the next thing I’m going to complain about is that I just have too many visitors!! :-) I’ll try to restrain myself.

Welcome back! Glad the kids do so well for you on planes…that is a real bonus.

Hope your babysitter is coming over today to give you a break-I am sure you are exhausted! I know I would be!

i love reading your blog! it really makes my day. Your children are SO cute!! My sister has boy/girl twins also and I have so much fun with them.
I am going thru fertility and Friday is my big day…i wanted your advice in trying to decide to put one embryo back or two? I have a strong shot at both “taking” . I am 33 and have no other children. I really would like twins but i’m wondering if it will overwhelm me? Although I also have the school of thought that “it is what you make of it” please share any thoughts with me.

Great info on the experience of parenting twins! I thought you and your readers may be interested to meet a set of twins who are both competing to quliafy for the Beijing Olympics. There is a great video on NBCOlympics.com giving a little peak into their life:

I’m glad you’re back! Reading about all those visits makes my head spin. Glad the babies took everything so well — those are two well-adjusted children!

I can’t believe that someone asked you which twin was “better.” ???!!! What did they expect you to say?

Wow..which one is better? Amazing. The other day my husband took our girls to the store, and someone asked him which is his favorite. I know there are lots of things that people without twins just don’t realize are not cool to ask…but who’s the best? Does it really take a MoM to get that that might not be good to ask? At least the kids aren’t old enough to understand yet, I haven’t figured out what I’m going to do when they are.

I hope your feet are up! :)
Enjoy the return home…and all will shake back to normal soon I am sure. (My husband is with you, “Florida is a nice place to visit, but….!)

Aren’t those questions incredibly surprising? I’ll never forget one passer-by, “Oh look at the little beauty and beast!” WHAT?!?!?

    Water off a duck’s back, water off a duck’s back…

(Thanks for popping by my blog! See what love notes you may have in store ;) )

    Welcome home!

Sounds like a great (exhausting!) whirlwind trip!

So, what did you say when the little old lady asked you which one was “better”? :)

Someone asked Brook and I which one was our favorite once and, just for fun, Brook said, “Reid. Definitely”. Obviously, joking…but, they thought he was telling the truth, which made it all the more funnier!

By the way, is that a Born Free sippy?

    Do you like them?

We can’t get them up here, but I’m thinking of having them sent up.

Then again…I have a bazillion sippies and what’s one more?

Wow, I’m exhausted just reading about it!

So which is the “better one”? My favorite was when a little old man asked me in the middle of the supermarket, “Which is the evil one?” It’s me, bwa ha ha!
