Makes My Monday – Fashion Edition

By Goddess in Progress ·   February 23rd, 2009

Cheryl at Twinfatuation hosts Makes My Monday.  What makes your day today?

For me, it has to be Daniel’s fashion sense, or at least his ideas about clothing.  To start, the sleep sack.  We are still using Halo Sleep Sacks for all naps and overnight, the only exception being a few particularly warm and feverish days in Florida.  Sometimes after nap, when I ask Daniel if I should take his off, he very clearly says “no.”  (Except in his super-cute Daniel way, which is more like “no?”)  Who am I to argue, as long as we have nowhere to be?

Walking in the sleep sack

For those who take their babies out of sleep sacks at 8 or 9 months because they think it will interfere with mobility?  Ha, I say! Ha!  Daniel walked around for a solid 30 minutes in that thing, completely zipped up.  As long as it isn’t a size too small (we still have some mediums hanging around), he has no problems.

Eventually, though, he did decide that it was alright if I took it off.  Mostly so that he could put on his jacket.  And Daddy’s shoes.  And insist that we go outside.  But give me a big huge NO if I suggest that maybe we need pants when it’s cold out.*

Daddy's shoes, no pants

Who am I to argue when he has such a definitive idea of what is appropriate to the situation?

*We did not, in fact, go outside without pants.  In case you were wondering.

So cute! He looks like a monk in that first one. I can’t believe he’s big enough to play dress up w/M’s shoes – crazy how quickly they get to be so big!

So cute! My son doesn’t want to take his sack off either-yeah, he’s still wearing it at almost 26 months. We decided to keep them in the sacks so they can’t climb out of the cribs-so far it’s working!

He is too adorable!!! I always wondered about those sleep sacks; wasn’t sure if it was needed down here in TX. Everyone seems to love them, though!

You made my Monday with the Halo sleep sacks tip! We had sacks, and the girls grew out of them, and we couldn’t find larger sacks- until now! I’m thrilled! It gets chilly in the jungle at night.

I can’t see these photos (I’m at work), and I can’t wait to check them out at home! I wish we’d stuck with the sleep sacks! They get tangled during the night with their other blankets, yet can’t sleep without them (or their “me” tag blanket, or their “blue monkey”, or their “brown monkey”).

The going-outside-without-pants thing with Danielle made me think of a little trick I do on the boys to get them to don clothing. Practically every day, they will get on their little Red Flyer scooters, wearing only blue rainboots and a diaper, and scoot to the front door. They’ll stand up, reach for the doorknob and yell out “Bye Mama, See you later!” (or their new thing, “I’ll be right back!”). Since we keep the front door locked, they obviously can’t get out, but if they want to go outside I tell them that they have to put clothes on. When they yell out NO!, I say, “OK, you can go out…but it’s only 7 degrees (or -20…you know, “spring”) and you’ll be cold with no clothes.”. I open the door and say, “Bye!”. They never get past 2 seconds without saying, “It cold outside!”. Then they shut the door and, inevitably ask for pants.

Omigosh Goddess, I LOVE the “Swee’Pea” look in the sleep sack picture…and so adorable from behind.

And in Daddy’s shoes? That had to warm Dad’s heart. Good for you for capturing his evolving sense of style.

Thank you for Making My Monday!

Hi there– came over here from CrazyMomQuilts because you were one of the ones who mentioned using Flickr for your blog photos and wanted to ask you about that but then got sidetracked when i started reading this post and saw the first picture. In an instant, I was taken back five years when my firstborn was doing that exact same thing, toddling along, sleep sack puddling at her feet. So cute! (And your photos are stunning!)

I don’t know why they’re almost unheard of in the States, especially for non-newborns. I got all my sleepsacks in Germany where they’re so common, they sell them in the baby aisle in groceries stores even, and make ‘em for toddlers and larger too.

Anyway, thanks for a wonderful stroll down memory lane!

I am a huge fan of the sleep sack and have been wondering if we’ll have to stop using them. Obviously not! : ) Now if they would just make an adult one for me, I’d be all set!

LOL! this is too cute! our little one “walked” in her sleepsacks too – and then we found out that Halo makes the ones with feet holes! They are great – she LOVES her sleepsack and won’t nap or nightnight without it. We just got some of the lighterweight mesh ones with the feet holes…maybe they are called early walker? check them out – sounds like JUST what you need! :)
