All mom blogs need to go there eventually, right? Well, here’s a poopy post for you (not too graphic, I promise).
Rebecca is all about the word “poop” right now. Except, here’s the thing…. she’s started using it 5-10 minutes before she poops. Twice so far today.
I’m a little afraid…. should I jump on this opportunity and explore the idea of potty training? I mean, she’s only 21 months old. But if the opportunity is presenting myself, I’d hate to miss a good window.
I don’t have any potty supplies in my house, of course. No potty seat. No ring for the big throne, and she’s such a teeny thing that she’d fall right in if I tried to just plop her on there.
Moms of kids older than mine, what do you think?
…
See, as poop posts go, that wasn’t so bad…

I don’t have an older child, but my Aug 12 daughter starting letting me know about 10 minutes before she needed to potty last week. When she did I just asked, “Do you need to sit on the potty?” She said yes, and she did. For the last 5 days she’s repeated the same thing (even when at a restaurant) and has been pooping on the potty. She is not peeing at all on the toilet. We don’t use a little potty at her request (“No! No potty seat”). I was afraid she’d fall in, but I sit near her (but I don’t have twins). No falls yet! My friends with older girls all have said to capitalize on this. I’m not pressuring, no “big girl pants” yet. If it works great, if not we’ll try again after 2. Good luck!
Go for it! It can’t hurt. If it doesn’t work, no harm done. If it does work, great!
good luck,
Kevin
My sister had this happen aroudn the same age for her son. She let him use the potty when he said he wanted to and otherwise didn’t push him and it worked out great. He lost interest after a couple of days but when 6 months later they “trained” him he was okay – good associations. Leave wipes in the bathroom – easier than toilet paper…

Take it as an opportunity and see where it goes. Doesn’t hurt to try. Worse case is it doesn’t work and you’re no worse off than you are now.
Peanut showed a little interest about that age and we managed to work up to a consistent before bath pee. That’s where we still are, but I think the familiarity of it will make our hard-core training a bit easier (she says with her fingers crossed).
Good luck!

Bree is pretty much obsessed with the potty and loves toilet paper. So, we went ahead and bit the bullet and purchased two little potties. We only put one out for now and she will occasionally ask to sit on it. She has never actually done anything in the potty and I am not going to pressure her to. But, I am all for building up the familiarity and letting them sit on it if they express a desire. I figure it can’t hurt.
Oh, and Cullen wants absolutely nothing to do with the potty.

All kids are different. My experience with our 2 1/2 year old is that she peed on the potty the first day we got it, when she was 18 months old. Since then, she’s peed or pooped on the potty at home or school about a half dozen times. She definitely knows when she has to poop and tells us, but that only sometimes mean she wants to sit on the potty and even less frequently means she actually does. So we sit on it when she wants to and don’t push it when she doesn’t. We have, however, tried spending the full morning on the potty, watching Sesame, reading books, etc., but without much success. But we’re thinking of getting more aggressive soon (having a big girl underwear weekend), although I’m very hesitant since we’re only a month away from the arrival of #2 and people say that can cause some kids to regress. I wish there was an easy solution!

I say, if there is an interest, explore it. You’re right to say she’s young so she may not take to it, but if she does…Jackpot! Perhaps start by a little potty time while you’re running the bath water at night, that type of thing. You never know?
Go for it! We have had both the smaller seat and this: http://www.amazon.com/Bjorn%C2%AE-Large-Potty-Chair-White/dp/B000065AE4 because kids may feel more comfortable with one over the other. I like the Bjorn because it doesn’t have a lot of nooks/crannies to get stuff in and it has a high back and doesn’t tip. We have had limited success, but we are not pushing it and will let Kate decide when she wants to truly begin using it. Right now she sits and reads on it, or uses it before her bath.
Try it! The worst that can happen is that she’s uninterested and you try again in a few months.

I would go for it too!
Here’s an idea… on the Tuesday Blog Party… there is a potty chair being auctioned off and all you have to do to enter is donate $1.
If you win the potty, then you know you were meant to start potty training

She’s not too young at all. My twins started at 18 months (but they had a big sister to copy). If she’s interested at all, go for it!
(ugh! and why can’t mr. commentluv find me?? I’m having so much trouble with him lately.)
Definitely not bad for a poop post! I didn’t gag one time!
I would definitely take this opportunity to start potty-training. Girls learn earlier than boys, so she may be showing signs of readiness before her brother. Try to get to the store at your next chance and get her a potty seat. IMO, I used those little seats that fit on the big seat. No clean-up, no transition to big potty, takes up less space, etc.
Keep us poop – er, posted!

definitely encourage her to go in the potty. mace has been peeing in the big pot for months when we put him on or when he tells us. owen, not so much. it seems like they tell us when they are ready. they love using the big pot because they think it is cool.
and the crocs rock. that’s what the boys wear from april to september.

LOL, not bad as far as what poop posts could be.
Hey, I’d say if she is obsessed with the word poop, go ahead and try putting her on the seat! Can’t hurt since you’re not pressuring her. I find potty training to be so mysterious. You might remember how Jack took to it right away, then while we were in Taiwan he resisted, and he’s STILL really afraid of it, although he’ll take his stuffed animals to the toilet so THEY can poop. Go figure. I’m going to wait until he shows that he’s ready again, then plop him on there. Anyway, I think if Rebecca knows the word poop and is interested in it, she’s ready to at least give it a whirl!

For what it’s worth, my mom started introducing us to the potty at around 18 months. She did everything early, I think, but with 4 well-adjusted kids under her belt (now well-adjusted adults!), maybe its not so bad.
