Show Me the Mommy – 21w6d

By Goddess in Progress ·   November 5th, 2010

My dear blog friend LauraC has been doing a fun photo series on Fridays, called “Show Me the Mommy.”  I know I’m always the one behind the camera, so there are shockingly few pictures of myself in the last several years.

Additionally, I remember one regret I had from my last pregnancy was that I didn’t take more pictures of myself while pregnant.  And though I have not gone the weekly-belly-shot route, I figured it was high time I took a self-portrait.  Naturally, I HATE the picture.

I’ll be 22 weeks pregnant tomorrow – more than halfway done.  As with so many things, while an individual day may seem slow, the weeks feel like they are flying by.  Hard to believe that the third trimester is rapidly approaching, with its more-frequent checkups and general large-ness.

I’m also starting to feel like I’m rounding the corner into looking pregnant-not-just-fat, thank goodness.  Especially from my own perspective, looking down at my belly, it feels bigger and rounder, more noticeable.  Of course, from the profile shot, I’m not so sure… I think it’s one of those things that depends on the angle, and how well you knew me beforehand.  Either way, I feel less exponentially huge than last time around, which is a pretty welcome change. And hey, since I got ALL THOSE stretchmarks last time, I certainly haven’t seen any new ones crop up! Silver lining, right?

Alright, alright.  I’ll post the picture.  I hate it. I considered not posting it. But in the name of honesty or something, here I am.  Taken yesterday, before my spinning class, as quickly as possible in my gym’s locker room so random passers-by wouldn’t think I was a weirdo.

Lordy, I can’t wait until I get to see the scale go down again, instead of up…

That is okay – you are a weirdo. But we love you anyway. :) You look great. Really. And you still rock the gym. Most still don’t. Though I know hard it is re: a body image perspective. Yet, you are growing a beautiful baby girl. The rest will come…

    YAY!!!!!!
I also think it is a cute picture.

If it makes you feel any better, I HATED every preggo picture I took and now I look back and I am so glad I had Jon take them. I think my bump looks cute in hindsight.

    Also HELLO terrible gym lighting?!

You look great! And I’m so impressed with your gym schedule this pregnancy. I’m sure it will really help, post birth.

You look as good in blue as you do in orange :)

I remember going to step aerobics class when I was 20 weeks pregnant w/ twins and desperately wanting to blurt out to the class, “I’m pregnant w/ twins! That’s why my step doesn’t have any risers beneath it and I look fat and lazy. Really, I’m kicking ass here people!” HA! :)

    Hey Liz,

Congrats on being 1/2 way done! I took a self -imposed social media hiatus for the month of October, so I had to go back to see you are expecting a GIRL! Congrats!

You look beautiful and glowing in your PG. And yes you kick ASS for doing a spin class at 22 weeks.

Well, I think you look great. I hate pics of me too. I’ve told my husband a myriad of times I need more pics with our daughter instead of being the one taking them; of course once I get one, I hate it. Oh well.

You look great! I’m glad that you posted because you can hear from the rest of us since you don’t seem to believe it yourself about how good you look. I usually hate pictures of myself with the kiddos but I continue because its important to have them. And I’m in your camp of regret about not having more pictures while pregnant with my twins.

You look fab, darling! I know what you mean about the looking fat vs looking preggo – I’m a week behind you at 21 weeks, and it really depends on what style of shirt I’m wearing. Regular shirt? Fat. Tie under the boobs maternity shirt? Definitely pregnant. Which reminds me I should probably take/post a picture myself soon…
