Lucy Elizabeth

By Liz · January 28th, 2010

My first finish of 2010 is for a good friend and her brand new baby girl, Lucy.

It was no secret I would be making a quilt for her, and I just waved goodbye to it on the mail truck. I was going to wait a couple of days to post about it, but someone decided she wanted to see pictures…

Lucy Elizabeth

Once I found out this baby was to be a girl, I ordered a charm pack and a jelly roll of Hushabye.  I went through various thoughts on what I’d actually do with it, and eventually settled on this.  5″ (cut) centers, 2.5″ borders.  The solid is Kona Cotton in Bone, which wasn’t quite so stark as plain white.

The back is the bunny damask print from the same line, with a strip of squares.

Quilting is diagonal lines in pink thread. Binding is also from the same line. Yes, I said I was going to try to do fewer quilts using all fabrics from the same line, I know. But I bought this fabric last October, so I think I get a pass. And sometimes it just looks so nice, you can’t pass it up.

Anyways, it’s in the hands of the postal service, on its way to Manhattan.  I hope Lucy likes it! (And her mom, too, I suppose…)

Love the squares on the back the give this quilt a very personal touch! I sure hope the USPS knows how like they are to be delivering such a special package to such a special girl.

This looks great. I love the simplicity of the designs – can’t go wrong with squares. Great idea to use a charm pack and a jelly roll! I’m definitely going to copy this idea. Question: did you have enough left over in your jelly roll and charm pack to do another one?

It looks wonderful! And I love the large areas of the bunny on the back – and the row of squares is a great accent. I’m sure she’ll love it for years!

I’m very guilty of making quilts all from the same line of fabrics. I wont send the quilt police your way. I love how this turned out! What a great idea.

I really have to get some of that fabric you used on the backing. I love it. Thanks so much for linking up to Finished for Friday!

Liz! It’s adorable! I love seeing it all together. Sometimes only the fabric group will do – I’m guilty! It’s so easy :)

Oh, I have totally done this! I used a jelly roll and charm pack of Merry and Bright to make a Christmas quilt as a wedding gift and it turned out so cute that I then got a set of Pumpkins Gone Wild to do one that way for my own family. I love the simplicity and modern look of this design, and how it allows you to showcase the fabric.

The fabric line you chose is SO cute. The back is darling- it’s reversible! I am sure baby and mama are going to love this quilt. (And I bet complete strangers will stop them to compliment it.)

I love the fabric. I wish it had been available before my daughter was born. Of course I could sew another quilt but that might be unnecessary! You did a great job. And I love the name Lucy too!
