My friend R and I have known each other for almost exactly four years. She was my “big sister” through our Moms of Twins Club, and when we met, her boy/girl twins were nine weeks old, and I was 28 weeks pregnant with mine. Fast-forward, and we were both pregnant again, this time with just one baby each, her pregnancy exactly four weeks behind mine. Her sweet new baby boy was born this week. Obviously he needed a quilt of his own…
The orange/green/gray combination has been on my mental to-do list for a while. I love that it’s so very “boy,” but without a single bit of blue. As you can tell, I have a thing for baby quilts that aren’t all that baby-ish. While I am really happy with the way the fabrics came together, I was a little nervous presenting it to my friend. The color combo is a little unusual, and I can see how not everyone would like it. Thankfully, she did.
Each block is around 6″ square. I made them slightly larger, and then trimmed them down at a bit of a wonky angle for some fun. The wonk is a little more subtle than I wanted it to be (a common problem for me). I think, if I ever want to get truly wonky, I’m going to have to break my addiction to efficiency and chain-piecing, because the fact that all of these pieces started out with the same dimensions certainly limits their potential for true wonkiness. (Wonk wonk wonk, it’s just fun to say.)
The back is big pieces of solids with scraps of the prints here and there. I am proud to say that this is almost an entirely stash-based quilt. A few of the prints are newer to me, but most of them were pulled straight from what I already had.
I quilted it in a squared-off meandering pattern, and bound it in the Amy Butler Full Moon Dot in Lime. You know I love me some Full Moon…
The quilt has been finished for about two months, of course, just waiting for a name and a birthday so I could label and wash it. Happy Birthday, Jacob!

That is simply lovely! Incredible workmanship. Charming. Lucky boy, Jacob and welcome to a world in which you’re already loved.
It looks fab! I love the orange and green. Yay for smashing the colour gender bias!
Yea! I really like this one. =)

OMG-I love it. I love the backs that you do! They are just as great as the fronts. I really need to gete my 3 kids quilts done. Maybe after I sew Eva Rose’s Easter dress and the boys’ ties, I can get going on some quilts! You keep me inspired!

gorgeous!
As a mother of three boys I can appreciate how much harder it is to do ‘boy’ without falling onto blue fabric.
Super quilt.
Your quilts are beautiful. Really. I’m kind of salivating. And inspired, though I lack skill.
