Fabric lovers do weird things

By Liz · October 20th, 2011

I haven’t done a ton of impulse-buying fabric this year. Oh sure, there was my Sewing Summit haul, and a few other random purchases. But I really have been trying to use my stash this year, and most of my purchases were made with a specific purpose.

And then, one morning, I got an email from zulily. What was one of the specials of the day? Munki Munki pajamas. With barely a thought, I snatched some up.

There were some flannel pants with green gnomes that are so delicious they’ve gone straight to my pajama drawer. But as for the rest, I am conflicted.  Do I wear them, in their soft and comfy glory, proud fabric geek that I am? Or do I pull out my seam ripper and put them into my fabric stash?

My husband just looks at me and shakes his head. “You bought pajamas just to rip them apart for the fabric? Seriously?” Yes. Seriously.

For the record, they’re all XL (ahem, it’s my size, whatever). The top two (buses and pink gnomes) are spaghetti-strap nightgowns, which are really not my style, anyways.  The fish in bags are pajama pants. And I do technically already have some of those fish in my stash…

Fabric fiends friends, what would you do?

Wear them until you are inspired to use them in a project. Think of your pajama drawer as an extension of your stash.

I have all of that – not in pj form, but from a friend who bought them at Marshall’s and generously shared with me! I say cut them up for some ab fab mini quilts!!!

I bought the VB buses from the same email! I never had the intention of wearing the PJs (mine are also an XL), but haven’t ripped them apart yet either. I’m making my husband a quill with this fabric, but my hold up is what pattern to use. I don’t want to just start cutting until I figure it out!

Coming from a person who took any of her husbands shirts that had a stain, hole, or missing button to make a quilt, I say cut it!

I vote cut except maybe the fish since you’ll wear them and you have some in your stash already.

I’m with Mama Urchin, rip up the top two and wear the pants since you already have some in your stash. But maybe don’t wear them till you know what you want to do with your fish in your stash just incase you need just a tad more and can turn the pants into shorts or capris =D

*kicking self* I got that email too, I can’t believe I passed it up :(
If it were me, I’d cut up the night tops and leave the fish whole for a bit, you said yourself spaghetti strap pj’s aren’t your thing, so make those suckers into something that is your thing ;)
