Increments

By Liz · December 6th, 2012

I’ve been trying to push through to complete my stepsister’s wedding quilt (as mentioned in my WIP Challenge list), and am making good progress. As of last night, the top is nearly finished – just needs an outside border. In case you’re wondering, the blocks have a 3″ finished center square, 1″ inner ring, and 2″ outer ring. Sashing is 1″.

#widn Nearly-finished quilt top, but past my bedtime. Goodnight!

I will forever associate this quilt with How I Met Your Mother. Sometimes I like to listen to music when I sew, sometimes I stream a movie or TV show on my iPad. I have a few friends who adore this show, but I had actually never watched it. Since all but the current season are available on Netflix, it has become my go-to sewing entertainment, and this quilt has fit neatly into HIMYM-increments.

I had the pieces for the blocks set out in ready-to-chain-piece stacks, with seven blocks per stack. One stack? Two episodes.

Time to add sashing and put the blocks into rows? One episode per row.

Assemble the quilt top? Two rows plus sashing per episode, booyah!

I’m well into the second season, now, and plenty more to go on my ever-expanding to-do list. I wonder how long it’ll take me to catch up to real-time on this show?

What about you? Do you have a favorite playlist or show for when you’re sewing? Or are you content to just listen to the whirr of the machine?

Looks great – love the colors!! I usually wach Criminal Minds – which seems to always be on on some channel, or whatever else I can find!

Wow, this is coming together beautifully!!! I LOVE Netflix for an old TV series while I quilt… the 40 minute segments are perfect and remind me to get up, get a drink go to the bathroom… The more mindless the better but I seem to have a thing for murder… Dexter, True Blood, The Closer… such violent delights;-)

    1. Love the quilt! I can’t wait to see it finished. 2. Welcome to the HIMYM bandwagon. My sister got my hooked a couple of seasons ago. You should name the quilt something like, “The Legend, wait-for-it-like-you’ve-had-to-wait-for-this-quilt, dairy Wedding.”

I love the colours on that quilt – beautiful. Wish I had an answer for your question, but I am sadly sewing so infrequently these days that it doesn’t pertain to me. I did sew up a hole in my jeans the other day after about a month of psyching myself up (I should be embarrassed to pipe up in such lofty company).

I LOVE that quilt! Like, pink puffy heart love. That magenta (at least that’s how it shows up on my computer) is absolutely beautiful.

Last year’s season is on Netflix? Time to sign up again. :-) Everyone was talking about that show, so Jeff and I watched it, but last season wasn’t up yet and we cancelled Netflix. Hilarious show. (And now we get the random references people make.)

I love the quilt, btw. :-)

And when I sew, I watch whatever show I have lined up on Hulu.

Beautiful colors in the quilt! I’m always watching something while I sew. And I love Netflix for catching up on all those series I never watched. I’ve made it through The Office, Parks & Rec, Raising Hope, Rules of Engagement & now I’m on Scrubs.

I love the colors. With my new smaller sewing, I sit at the kitchen table and listen to what ever is on. Last night it was a DVR’d episode of Person of Interest (already caught up on HIMYM been a fan since the beginning!)
