This weekend, we had an exciting first. Though Danger and Peril have been doing a lovely job of making themselves known by kicking my bladder and cervix, Saturday marked the first time I actually felt them from the outside. They’re both (I think) still breech, so most movements have been pretty low. But Saturday night, sitting on the couch, I felt a big thump up by my ribcage, on the right side (that would be Peril’s side, the boy). I put my hand there, and he did it again! It felt like a huge movement, like if I had been looking at just the right spot at just the right time, I might even have been able to see it happen. I called my husband over to feel it, and a minute later, he did it again! Sunday morning, I felt the same kind of movement, just as high, but on my left (Danger’s side). I called my sister-in-law over, and she felt it, too! I’ve managed to catch it a few more times. It’s a whole new kind of movement, and I have to say, it’s really neat.
I started thinking about other firsts, and I’m not sure I’ve done the best job recording them for myself here on the blog. Since this is serving largely as my pregnancy journal, I want to be able to look back and remember things, and I’m not sure I’m dutifully recording them all. I’ll try to do better, for my own benefit if no one else’s.
7-8 weeks was the first time I needed to do the “rubber band trick” with my pants, since they were quickly becoming too tight.
9 weeks was when I basically stopped wearing old pants altogether, and got a few pair in the next bigger size.
12 weeks was the first time I wore maternity pants, and I can’t tell you how awesome it was.
14-16 weeks was when the very last pair of fat pants gave up and I was 100% in maternity pants.
14-16 weeks was also probably when I started feeling movement, but I wasn’t sure whether it was babies, stretching, or just gas!
18 weeks was when I started wearing maternity shirts, 21 weeks made it pretty much full-time.
19-20 weeks was the first time I was sure I had felt one of them, and of course, it was a kick to the bladder.
20+ weeks was when I started to really feel like I looked pregnant to just about anyone. Plenty of people noticed before then, but if you didn’t know me, there could still be a question in your mind (“pregnant, or just fat?”). Certain outfits would make it more obvious than others, but now I think there’s really no question unless I’m just wearing an enormous sweatshirt.
Alright, I think I’m more or less caught up on some of the big ones. I’ll try to remember to post more of them from now on!

Congrats on feeling the outside movement!!! What an amazing feeling that is. And to be able to finally share it with your husband is a special time also. Although, now that they’ve started, they won’t stop…it can be very distracting when you are trying to actually get some work done
Enjoy!
