A brief post while the babies are napping and family is quiet. We’re having a great time so far in the greater Chicagoland area. Our flight was pretty uneventful, and the kiddos did as well as could be expected. A couple of choices I made ahead of time proved to be wise. We flew out of a smaller airport and therefore avoided the crushing crowds and snarky business travelers. We flew on Wednesday morning and therefore avoided the peak holiday rush. My dad came with us (M joined us on Friday), and I definitely think that going on my own would have been theoretically possible but extremely unwise.
Security was a chaotic experience, even though the five people in line behind us were very nice and not in a hurry. For those who haven’t done it, picture having to take the carseats apart from the double snap n go, then take the babies out of the carseats. Carseats go on the belt upside down, stroller frame got manually inspected. In addition to all of the usual security crap like removing shoes, coats and laptops… needless to say it took us a little while.
But we were able to pre-board the flight and had three seats between the four of us (another wise choice). Both babies fell asleep on takeoff. Hooray! Unfortunately, Ms. Rebecca is attempting to unseat her brother for the title of “fussiest baby,” so she had a meltdown mid-flight. And we had the unusual all-male flight attendants, who gave my dad a snarky look as he paced the aisle with baby while they wanted to serve coffee. Whatever.
One way or another, though, we made it safe and sound. So far there has been a lot of disruption to nap schedules and more crowds and noise than they’re used to. And they’ve handled it smashingly. I’m quite proud of them, really.
Anyways, we’re here, we’re safe, and I hope all of you out there in internet-land are doing well. Over and out from the midwest…
