*shakes fist at the sky*
I wish I’d had my babies about a year earlier. Because various agencies keep taking things away right when I need them. First, it was the damn Bumbo chair. As soon as my kids started to enjoy being more upright, they were subject to the stupidest recall in history, and in the space of two days could no longer be found in any of the stores where I had walked past them so many times before. At least then I could go on Craigslist.
Now, a we all know, the FDA has given a big “no” to cold medicine for infants and toddlers. Just in time for Daniel to get a cold with a nasty, pleghm-y cough. Just in case the teething wasn’t keeping him up enough, now the moment he finally falls asleep, he wakes up coughing. My poor boy. All I want is for my baby to feel better and go back to sleeping well. And this time, there’s no Craigslist to help me. What with the whole “serious and potentially life-threatening side effects can occur,” I can’t just disregard it and go buy some Robitussin. What do they have to offer me? Keep him well-hydrated. Hi, the kid’s only nutrition comes in liquid form, and he’s pretty much never met a bottle he didn’t like. I don’t think that’s a problem.
And yes, I know that coughing is a good thing and helps loosen all the gunk that’s in his chest. But when I’m holding him and have my hand on his back and can actually feel the congestion, or when he’s crying the sweetest, saddest cry I’ve ever heard because his gums hurt and he keeps coughing and he’s just so tired… I just wish there was something I could do for him.
Won’t be the last time, I’m sure.

In the good old days, they would have put a little brandy or whisky in his bottle. Good times, good times.

I so feel your pain.
I feel your pain. Our Lily was sick at 3 weeks and all they could tell me was to keep her upright and put Vaporub on her chest. Well her congeston got so bad she had to be hospitalized for a week!!!! Can your doctor give him breathing treatments? They seemed to really work when Lily was in the hospital. I hope he gets to feeling better.
Hope he feels better soon!
If it makes you feel any better, we tried OTC cold medicine and prescription cold medicine when the boys had horrible horrible colds that they thought might be RSV last winter (wasn’t RSV, whew!!!). It made them super agitated and made them wake MORE and scream and cry instead of just waking up to cough.
Just what every parent of newborn twins needs! Babies who wake MORE!
Have you tried a humidifier in the nursery while they nap? My daughters got a terrible cough, but the humidifier seems to be helping her sleep better, as well as helping her heal.

I hear ya. We just went through this. Our pedi wrote us a prescription we couldn’t fill! We finally got something called in at 9pm on a Friday night. Good luck. Sleeping upright helped our boys.
So sorry! I just spent a fortune at Target on every kind of over the counter, vaporizing, menthol smelling, steam producing, non medicine, help the babies breathe better STUFF I could get my hands on. I feel your pain, minus the teething.
F & R have been stuffed up and the humidifer and Baby Vick’s helps during naps and nighttime. I hope that they get better before the flight though!
I second the humidifer because it’s helped so much for my boys. I hope they get better soon for you!
