You don’t say…

By Goddess in Progress ·   March 4th, 2008

This morning, I got one of my “your baby this week”-type emails. This one is less bothersome than some. I had to unsubscribe from the Babycenter.com emails because they were freaking me out, making me worried my kids were way behind in development. But the one I got today is a little more middle-of-the-road, so I keep it. Well, it mentioned that, at some point in the seventh month, most babies start to develop object permanence. An exciting cognitive developmental milestone, for sure. And one, the email assured me, that would mean a newfound love of Peekaboo.

Today, in two separate incidents, my kids suddenly thought Peekaboo was the funniest damn thing they had ever seen.

The down side, unfortunately, is the beginning of clinginess and separation anxiety. But for the moment, I’m going to focus on Peekaboo. Because hearing Daniel crack up while I hold a towel in front of my face is friggin hilarious.

Just wait until they start playing it with each other. Definitely one of those moments of being glad to have two. Listening to them giggle at each other is the coolest thing.

OMG, I also hate those babycenter.com emails. I liked the pregnancy ones, because I couldn’t see whether or not Jack really was the size of a cucumber or if he was only a gherkin. :) But the baby development ones make me paranoid because Jack is almost NEVER doing the things they say he should be. He’s not driving yet, OK?! :)

So cute about peekaboo delight. Jack likes it when I lift his legs after a diaper change, suddenly open them and say, “Peekaboo!!!” (I try not to think about the psychological damage resulting from having your mother’s face pop out from between your legs.) He laughs maniacally when I do this!

I hated those “your baby should be doing this, and may even be doing this…” emails. Ugh! My kids were always so far behind in most areas, although they did walk ridiculously early. Now they’re 4 1/2 and pretty much ordinary kids!
