When the folks on MSNBC first used the phrase “President-elect Obama,” I burst into tears. Plenty of other people have much more eloquent things to say about the hugeness of what happened tonight, so I won’t even really try. I underestimated the electoral vote total in my family’s pool (my dad said the winner gets a million dollars, but we still don’t know who’s ponying up the cash), but I’m darn close on the popular vote total: I guessed 52% Obama.
My brother and my stepsister were both within 100 feet of the podium in Grant Park, lots more people I know were in that sea of humanity. I know I was looking in the right spot, but couldn’t pick out my brother’s face – he was directly to the right of the podium, about 10 people deep.
I… just… I’m so proud. I’m so happy. I’m so relieved. I’m so…. so.
And now, it’s nearly 12:30am Eastern Standard Time (woohoo, not 4AM!). I’m going to go upstairs, sneak into my kids’ room, and touch their sleepy little heads. I’m going to go to bed. I’m going to wake up in the morning. A new day.
Yes, we can. Yes, we did. Yes, we can.
Oh… and, um… I might be buying plane tickets to Dulles for a particular weekend in January. We’ll see…

Me, too! I went to the 1997 inaugural events and had so much fun. I swore I would do it again. The question is, to bring the triplets or leave them at home?

Let me know if you want to meet up in DC! One of my friends works in the Senate and we’re trying to set up an inauguration date.
I think everyone who voted for Obama cried last night. I cried. I IMed. I texted. I whooped. I finally let my hope take over me.

Last night, I drank an entire bottle of wine and cried repeatedly out of sheer happiness. I swear, when I woke up yesterday morning, it felt POSSIBLE. It was like Christmas to me.
I CANNOT WAIT until 1/20/09…
To think our children will be raised in this new era!

I cried too. My husband will never understand why I cry when I’m happy.
