Another day, another haircut
Alright, you know I couldn’t resist. Now that Daniel looks so neat and clean (and possibly ready to enlist in the armed forces), I had to do something about Rebecca’s mess.
I knew it wouldn’t be a cure-all. I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the hair in her face. She still refuses barrettes (even bobby pins) about 98% of the time. I still refuse to cut bangs. But still, a little trim couldn’t hurt.
M and I split the kids up this morning and spent an hour or two totally reinforcing gender roles. M took Daniel to Lowe’s for paint and a light fixture, I took Rebecca to the kiddie hairdresser’s. I won’t lie, I feared the worst as far as Rebecca’s reaction. She can be particularly wary of new people and places right now, and makes her displeasure very well known. But Amy, Rebecca’s very first stylist, was very nice and Rebecca was apparently in a good mood. Offers of lollipops fell on deaf ears, but bribery with bubbles is a successful tactic. As long as the water spritzer was not sprayed directly on her head, and as long as Amy did not attempt to put her hair in a ponytail, she was actually the picture of cooperation.
Not much was cut off. Only maybe half an inch in the back, even less on the sides just to clean things up. I was indignant at the $17.99 they charged, but at least she’s unlikely to need frequent trims. At first, I thought it had made almost no difference at all. But after seeing it at all angles, I actually think it looks nicer in the back, and barely-shoulder-length is actually a very cute look on her.
Yes, the front still falls in her eyes, but I think I’ve found a better way to part it and it seems to work a touch better. I suspect that’s a battle I’ll continue to fight until either she decides she’ll accept barrettes, or I cave and cut bangs. I’d put my money on the barrettes before the bangs, but I wouldn’t hold your breath for either.

Super cute. On an odd note, we went today and they charged us $12.99 per kid since they were under two. Perhaps they overcharged you?

I think it looks GREAT!
17.99 might be because it was first haircut? Generally we pay much less than that at Snipits… although we also paid for the haircut coupon booklet and we’ve gone enough times to get free haircuts.
We’re thinking about moving to a barber now that the boys don’t scream bloody murder.

she looks darling! why no bangs though? i came home with abel to find ozzy sitting on j’s lap, cars on the TV and the clippers doing a number. oz was just sitting there being as still as he could. amazing! abel was curious, so we bribed him with a cookie and he let me cut his hair, too! i won’t say it’s the best job i’ve ever done, but man that kid needed a cut. and he was a freak about us cutting it until today. looks like we all won this weekend!

There must have been something in the air!
I have two objections to bangs on Rebecca, one being more generic and one being more specific.
The generic objection is that I hate the maintenance that bangs require. And as someone who had bangs, I also hate the process of growing them out. So until she’s old enough to request them, I am going to avoid making that call myself. I could change my tune at some point, but right now I am anti-bangs.
The specific objection with Rebecca’s hair is that all of the hair in her face right now is coming from way back on her scalp, growing forward. As both my hairdresser and the woman at the salon pointed out today, her hairline really hasn’t grown in yet, so the “bangs” that you’d cut aren’t really “bangs” kind of hair. If that makes sense. So they’d be bangs that went all the way to the back of her head.
Anyways, maybe I was just scarred from having bangs all through high school, and doing a terrible job of trimming them.

Hurray on a successful (and adorable) haircut.

She looks really cute. I agree about the bangs but honestly will probably just give them to Penny to start off. I’m already trying to “tame” her hair by constantly parting it and it still falls forward – I can see the same problem as you have with Rebecca. My sisters and I have lots of bad memories about mom cutting our bangs (oops! oops! so short…) but frankly it didn’t scare us that much and gives us good mom torture material. Wait, was that an incentive NOT to cute her bangs. Damn.

Both of the kids’ haircuts look so cute! I am totally with you on the bangs, so until Bree requests them, I am forcing the clips on her.

I definitely see a difference – she looks great! I hear ya on the price – my boys are 14 months, getting the mullet look (which I HATE also), but my DH keeps pushing back the haircut b/c he finds it outrageous to pay such a price for a few snips. I’m threatening to go without him.

She’s so cute. I completely agree with your decision to stay away from bangs – too high maintenance at that age. Great cut!
