You never know what little, seemingly insignificant, thing is going to make you realize how much bigger your kids have gotten. On the one hand, I often forget how itty bitty my Rebecca is. I mean, intellectually I know she’s a little thing, riding that 5th percentile. But I see her every day, so I don’t think that much about it. And while she’s small, she’s not excessively skinny. But, for sure, she’s a little tiny thing. At 20 months old, I’m going to guess she’s barely 21-22 pounds.
We got the completed doll bed the other day, the ones I made the quilts for. It’s super cute, and Rebecca immediately tried to snuggle up into it. I snapped some pictures with my phone to send to the person who built them, so he could see it was already being put to good use. As you can see… it’s a little small for her. Well, of course it is! It’s a doll bed!
Except….
Because I made the mattress, I happen to know that the bed is 18 inches long.
20 months ago today, that little girl was a 4lb, 4oz peanut in the NICU.
She was 17.5 inches long.
My, how they grow.

Crazy pregnancy hormones are probably not helping any but this post totally made me cry. Especially the overhead shot. My girls were BIG by twin standards and they are still big now (usually in 85-95 %) but when I think about how small they really were….it makes me realize that time is flying by too fast. I would especially love to make things stop for a while at the age they are at now. We have a chest in our living room that we use for a coffee table and I can remember Jeff standing Chloe up when she was a newborn and her head didn’t even clear the top of the chest. Now they routinely climb up on it. Seriously – did you ever think, especially in the throws of newborn twinsanity, that there would come a time when you would want time to slow down??? Simply amazing!!!

I am not pregnant and it made me tear up as well. What a sweet post.
So Abigail did the exact same thing to her bed this morning! What is it about those little beds that makes little girls want to just climb right in? Maybe the gorgeous bedding.
And I am always shocked when I see the newborn clothing—how could they have ever been so small and tiny?
I know exactly what you mean! Love the pics!
LauraC´s last blog post..1000 posts! Finally… my (very long) birth story
I felt the same way when I saw my new niece – no way my kids were that small…except Ned was 2 lbs smaller than her daughter is. Thank goodness they grow so quickly – and become strong-willed little people who drive us crazy but who we love to death.

Isn’t it just crazy how they grow? I just can’t believe it sometimes…especially when I look back at photos. They don’t even look like the same kids.
And my Bree is small too…when I took her to the doctor on Friday she was 21 lbs. I guess we just have petite little girls!

How incredibly cute!! And amazing comparisons. I’m not sure that the length thing would have occurred to me…I’m usually obsessed with weight

Great pictures!!! If my daughters had it their way they would sleep in their baby doll beds. My girls have always been small, so I’m always amazed when people who haven’t seen them for awhile comment on how big they’re getting. What? No… these are my babies!
I know! You don’t really realize how much they’ve grown until you see a size-reference item from back in the day. This weekend I was organizing some of the boys older things for my friend who just had twins. I had Finn put on one of the winter hats that they wore just last winter and it was a-m-a-z-i-n-g how small it was. They do, indeed, grow very, very fast.
My boys are small like Rebecca. They were just over 22 lbs at their 2-year WBV (or would it be WTV?). Either way, they don’t seem small to us at all, as, like Rebecca, they are not super skinny or short…just “small”. But every week at Little Gym, I see the size difference. Kids just come in all shapes and sizes!

Hi. I’m visiting from MBC, the New england group. Your daughter is really cute. I also have a 20 month old daughter.
OK, I want the plans for the beds, and I want to order some quilts
I have been online to look for doll bed plans, but I can’t find any just like this one–most have a footboard and I don’t want that. Can your friend share his plans, or a website?
