I attempted my son's first hair on my own cut a couple of weeks ago.

http://rustedsun.blogspot.com/2009/06/how-to-give-toddler-hair-cut.html

It wasn't too bad and much cheaper than paying: $18 x2 plus tip = too much money. I mainly trimmed around the ears and then thinned out the back and top.

I think I will also try a dumdum next time.

My daughter loves the dum-dums too. But be careful... my husband had one the other day and said the lollipop ball came right off the stick into his mouth, which seems like a major choking hazard to me!

I can't believe the ridiculous cost of children's haircuts. But they have to have them.

Now you can put it behind you for at least a month, until you get to do it again. Hopefully they'll remember the lollipop prize at the end.

I definitely feel this pain! N&A screamed through every hair cut from their second hair cut until they turned 2.5. And we take them every month to get their hair cut (their hair grows fast). Even animal crackers and lollipops did not stop the screaming. They finally stopped when they understood that if they didn't cry, they got a lollipop. Until then, I sat them on my lap and got the joy of double screaming!

I keep Dum Dums in every purse, the car, and the diaper bag. I am amazed at what Kate calls a "pop-pop" can do for her when she is stressed. I may use one just once a week, so it's still a treat, but I will never be caught without one.

Maybe some Benadryl before going to get a haircut? Kidding, just kidding, kindof...
