The plastic multiplies

By Goddess in Progress ·   June 5th, 2009

And you thought bunnies reproduced quickly.

It all started innocently enough.  There was the swingset, a much-loved hand-me-down from my aunt that the kids use every day it isn’t raining or snowing.

And late last summer we took Snickollet up on an offer for some free outdoor push toys.  The kids were big fans.

First

After much drama, we added the play house from my mom.

Then we were housebound for a few months while everything was buried under a foot of snow and ice.  But eventually it melted, and just like my hastas get miraculously larger every single year, so does the population of kiddie stuff in our yard.  The newest additions include the wagon we scored at the twin club sale.

And the bench my dad couldn’t resist buying on a trip to Lowe’s (at least it isn’t plastic).

Plus, a kid-sized picnic table, which theoretically sits eight. Hey, when nearly all of your mom friends have twins, it doesn’t take long to add up a playdate to that kind of number.

And then my in-laws came to town. And went a little nuts in Toys R Us.  What with the crab-shaped sandbox…

And the dueling Cozy Coupes they’ve been wanting to get for a year.

Thank goodness I have a giant yard, but it’s beginning to look a bit over-run.  I at least try to “park” some of the toys in a more out-of-the way corner of the yard.  Not like I could hide the fact that a pair of toddlers live here, but at least I don’t have to look like I’m constantly prepping for or recovering from a yard sale.

My backyard and deck is over run with plastic as well! I don’t even bother “parking” stuff anymore. Love that swing set!

Hey your yard looks like my yard!
Although we keep the wagon in the garage because standing water = mosquito infestation in NC. We even have to keep the cozy coupes on their sides bc of the water issue.

I think you need an aerial shot of the whole yard so we can see all the toys at once! Is Goddess’s day care open for business? The Esq’s are heading over! :)

Ooh, it’s a daycare? We can drop our kids off (and run)? Because we could be right on over…..

Our yard is just as overrun, as you know. And smaller.

Our yard isn’t large at all, and it takes constant effort to find homes for all of the outdoor items. However, one day last summer someone stopped their car and asked me what I charged for my daycare!

This phase shall pass, but you are going to be so glad you got some of those things. That picnic table is worth its weight in gold.

Very similar to our yard. The mass of “stuff” in our yard kept 11 two and three year olds happily entertained for just over 2 hours this morning.

We’re more of an indoor family, so the insane number of toys are in the girls’ playroom, formerly the library.

We have neighbours with a daughter two months younger than my girls. They’re way outdoorsy people, in their yard all weekend with every outdoor toy under the sun. They’ve carpeted their garage, and it doubles as a golf-club maintenance shop and outdoor toy storage: mini golf-cart, 3 strollers, mini jeep, tricycle, little toddler slide retired in favour of massive playscape, plus a ton of other stuff.
