Here, There, and Everywhere
I’m a little scattered these days. Everything and nothing at all. One of those times with the very acute sense of there not being enough hours in the day. Apparently, too, not enough coherent thoughts for full blog posts. So here’s some scattershot updates.
Kiddos are ohmygodturningTWO right before my very eyes. Barely two weeks until their birthday. Unbelievable. (And I do plan on doing a year-in-review like last year, which is already looking pretty crazy!) They are, well, almost two. What can I say? Sometimes the cuteness and sweetness is overwhelming. The things they pick up on and repeat and remember is crazy. They are still talking about our trip to the movie theater, they remembered the names of the people we visited in DC a month ago, and a million other things.
They are also, of course, driving me positively bonkers. Nonsensical tantrums, pushing and fighting, the whole nine yards. I’m almost done reading 1-2-3 Magic, so I hope to put that into use soon. Sigh.
We are headed to Chicago in a scant week and a half, so there’s a lot of getting ready for that trip. It’s a long one, three different locations in two weeks, including an hour-and-a-half drive (each way) to one, and a six-plus-hour drive (each way) to another. Whew. I just bought a portable DVD player for the long drive, and ordered some toddler-sized headphones (that I will hopefully be able to convince the kids to use before we need them). I’m also sewing up a storm, practically every free moment that I have. I want to be able to bring some projects with me so that I can finish the last hand-sewn parts while I’m there. Feel free to check on my progress at my other blog.
Speaking of Chicago… M and I have been talking about moving there at some point, and I am starting to feel like it might actually happen. Not right this minute, of course. The job and housing markets suck in a major way, and I shudder to think of what kind of a beating we’ll take if we try to sell our house. But maybe next year? It’s out there. We’ll see.
In the meantime, the rain has let up and it is finally starting to feel like something approximating summer up here. We took a fun trip to Castle Island with some friends, have hit the playground a bunch of times, and finally brought out and filled the kiddie pool this morning. But nothing all that extraordinary or blog-worthy. I don’t want this to turn into one post after the other of “we did x, y, and z this weekend!”, but it seems I don’t have a ton else to say. Hopefully I’ll break out of this blog funk soon.

If the toddler sized headphones don’t ’stick’ for you, I found that speakers meant for an iPod work wonders at getting the DVD sound to the back with my kids so I don’t have to hear it in the front with me…It’s sometimes hard to anchor them, but well worth the effort so I can listen to music and they can hear their DVDs
Have fun on your trip! (And GAH! Chicago is too far away
)

On the headphone front, we did not give the boys the option to listen to the dvd without headphones. It’s amazing how Alex got over his fear when he really wanted to listen to the tv. But definitely try it out with iphone/ipod before the first car trip.
Also thought of you last night. Apparently there is another sextuplet show with the AZ sextuplets. In the show, there were SIX 20 month olds running around, grabbing hair, hitting, it was chaos. I forgot how insane that time period was in terms of breaking up fights! The grandmother said she spent literally her entire day refereeing going from one fight to another!

I’m in Chicago right now having survived my first flight alone with my 20 month old boys. Everytime I come back I see my family, friends, nieces and nephew and think it would be nice to move back. Then I remember the humidity, the winter, the schools, traffic, etc and Seattle seems perfect for us. But never say never!
Happy early birthday to your two. Looking forward to the flashback posts.

Moving “back home” (my home, not my spouse’s) was one of the best choices we ever made. And that’s a lot to be said for one of the coldest places in the country (Minnesota). I don’t know that we’ll be here forever, just given who we are, our careers, and the fact that my husband wants to live near his folks (in Spain) when they are older), but I’m so glad we are near my parents when the kids are young. It is win-win for everyone, the way I see it. So I hope it works out for you guys eventually!

Hooray for Chicago! Can we see you guys while you’re in? Don’t stress about it though. I know you guys have a lot of family to see!

I have boy/girl twins that just turned 2 in March. Doesn’t the time just fly by? Yes, those tantrums are patience testers for sure. Good luck with the car ride.
What’s 123 Magic?
Sorry for all of the questions, but I don’t have anyone close to me with twins. Did you start potty training yet and are they in toddler beds?
