The Bug, Part 5 – Conclusion

By Goddess in Progress ·   August 30th, 2010

The last in a very occasional series on whether or not to have more kids after multiples. [Part 1; Part 2; Part 3; Part 4]

Wow, really? The last time I mused randomly on having more kids was the better part of a year ago?  I mean, I mentioned it briefly after I met my nephew in January, but that’s it. Huh.

Frankly, there wasn’t anything new to say.  I want to, I don’t want to, I want to, I don’t want to.  M doesn’t want to.  Oh look, M still doesn’t want to. Fancy that.  Same old, same old. Nothing worth writing about and re-hashing, once again.

I’ve decided it’s time to close this topic.  Several months ago, now, I pretty much resigned myself to being all done. I was bummed at the time, but really, is it such a sad thing? I have two kids who, in spite of recent rough times, are completely awesome. Healthy. Smart. Sweet. Practically perfect in every way. A boy and a girl, even, in a nice neat package. What else do I need?

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . .

And then, something funny happened.

. . .

. . .

M changed his mind.

. . .

. . .

Baby Tres is on his or her way. Early March, 2011.

SURPRISE!

Before I start a-rambling on all of the things I’ve kept bottled up these last 12 weeks, I’m opening it up to questions from the peanut gallery. Anything you want to ask? I’ll happily tell whatever parts of the story you want to hear in future posts.

In the meantime, I’m going to go take another nap.

I already said this on facebook, but Congratulations! This is such wonderful news and I must admit that I am happy to know of someone else in the same boat :) Now, thinking back on all you guys have been up to recently, I can’t believe how much you have done during your first trimester. I am especially impressed with your solo trip to Chicago…amazing. Are you guys going to find out what you are having?? So exciting!

YIPPIE!! I’m so happy for you guys :)

I guess the biggest question on my mind is what changed M’s mind??

Oh – and had you convinced yourself (just in case) that there were two in there before actually finding out there is, indeed, only 1? ;) I totally did that! LOL “It’s okay. We have all twin equipment…we know we can handle two at a time…” heh

Oh! One more! Do you find yourself referring to “them” in there? cuz…babies always come in twos, right? Poor Logan was a “them” the entire pregnancy. :)

Oh My Gosh! I am FLABBERGASTED!

    Three questions –
    1. Are you finding out the gender and will you let us all know?
    2. Did you save stuff (infant car seat, onesies, blankets, bottles, etc…) so you’re ready for this baby?
    3. Are you so freaking excited to be pregnant with ONE baby!?!?!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!

    Welcome to the club Liz!
I know the answer to a few of these questions, but I am also curious to know if you were hoping to see twins in there… In my head, I wasn’t wanting it, but I admit I was a bit disappointed when we did not “over-achieve” like the 1st time!
Even though I feel sorry for G that he doesn’t have a built-in playmate, I LOVE having only 1 baby – even with older kids it is so much easier to reflect and enjoy the first year.

Personally, I’m DYING to know what changed your husband’s mind. We are currently right smack in the middle of I Want Another Baby More than Anything in the World (me) and There’s Nothing I Want Less in this World than Another Baby (husband). We’ve never disagreed on anything more unfortunately.

Congratulations again!!!! Isn’t it great to know you get to actually use all that knowledge from the first time around!!?!?!

Congratulations!! You’re going to love it. My singleton is 3 months old now, she was born just after my twins turned 3 years old. It has been so awesome. It’s so much easier, and it’s so great to be able to focus on one baby at a time and soak up every moment. Plus, my twins are crazy about their little sister, and seeing them be big sisters is the sweetest thing ever. I tell everyone I know with twins that wonders whether they want another one that the answer is YES! I’m so happy for you, after reading this blog since the uber-swaddle days. :)

I want to know what changed your husband’s mind, too.

I’ve got a partner who could very well be done with two. But we’ve got the complicating factor of an embryo on ice. And today, not much has changed since then.

Nosy me has lots of questions! I was hoping you’d join the club!
    - Was it harder to imagine 3 when Daniel was going through his rough time (twins at 16-19 mos I told my husband that if I weren’t already pregnant no way I’d have another kid)?
    - Are you ready to give up your free time that you were going to get when the kids go to preschool (although nice you’ll have time alone with new baby)?

It’s funny how people asked about the kids being jealous. Frankly with two toddlers it’s new baby that gets the shaft – she’s so easy now that she likes the playmat and takes the occasional decent nap. I did stress a lot about BFing – how to do it when I was caring for twins – is that a concern? (My situation is easier with a nanny caring for N&P and we are on all formula anyway).
    - Do Daniel and Becca know you are pregnant? How are you discussing it with them (Penny pointed at many strangers’ stomaches stating “baby!” for quite some time…)
    - Any differences this pregnancy so far?
    - Last time it took you a while to get pregnant, was it easier this time? (Any help?)
    Very excited for you all!

Congrats! To have a third baby has been the million dollar question on my mind lately (despite the fact I would want to wait awhile even if we did decide to do it), although we don’t have a twin situation. So, my totally hypothetical question for you is this: If you did not have twins, but had your boy and your girl, let’s say about 2.5 – 3 years apart, what is the likelihood you think you would have decided to have a third? And, like others, I want to hear M’s side of the story; why did he change his mind?

Congratulations! I too want to know how you got M to change his mind because I’m trying to get my husband there too! But as someone in the midst of the 17 month toddler battles I am willing to wait another 6 months :-) Another thing I personally worry about is that I’ve lost over 30 pounds in the last 5 months and the thought of having to do it all over again is not appealing. I was totally shocked and happy to see this post! I hope that this pregnancy goes well for you.

Congratulations! Exciting news – I am very happy for you. My question- without taking away from the wonderfulness of baby 3, is/was any part of you sad about the close of this era, where Daniel and Rebecca are your only kids? I have 2 year old twins and while the biggest, biggest part of me would love to have another baby (or even, on some days, another set of twins – like KathyB, I think a part of me would be disappointed to hear “just one baby” on a next pregnancy), sometimes I feel sad when I imagine adding another kid in to the picture. I haven’t entirely been able to articulate why, but it has something to do with my twins losing my ‘undivided’ attention, such as it is, or losing what little time there is to really focus on their days and their accomplishments and their developments. I am happy to see such glowing reports about twins plus from other mum’s on this page, though – and hope that is your experience too. Look forward to hearing all about it!

Oh, happy day! After having a single and then twins, I think every mommy should know the joy and simplicity of one baby at a time – my sister had twins first and then her single and she ate up every bit of him!!! You will love it – although as you know you can’t run man to man defense anymore as they will out number you!! Congrats!

(a month without true internet on my desktop was torture!) The husband and I are so happy for you guys. Our twins are almost 2 and we have been discussing adding another to the mix but decided to wait till the boys are 2.5 to try. I am so totally looking forward to your experience since I always feel like you and M are so similar to the husband and I. And I have to admit I teared up a little when I saw the news.
