Happy Thursday – Need I Say More?

By Goddess in Progress · Comments (5)·   February 19th, 2009

Happy ThursdayWelcome, once again, to Happy Thursday!  Please play along with Mr. Linky, below, and tell us all what’s making your Happy Thursday.  Something fun going on? A good week?  Or are you just glad it’s nearly the weekend?  Grab the Walter button and link back here.  And have a Happy Thursday!

For me, no big surprise.  I’m so happy to be back at home.  While there were bright spots to our Florida trip, it was overall completely draining and much more stressful than relaxing.  So even though it’s barely 40 degrees here in Massachusetts and we’ve got a really lovely, slushy rain-snow mix going on right now, I’m glad we’re here.  The kids are getting back into the swing of things and I think are glad to be back in their own beds.  Our scheduled activities are such that we’ve jumped right back into music class, play time, and even our new gymnastics class (more on that later!).

Hiya, sister!

The only trouble is that I’ve yet to get any kind of real break.  While I had help down in Florida, there was still the feeling that I was constantly “on,” always the primary in charge.  M has done his very best to be extra helpful, and even took Tuesday off when we got home, but other than that he obviously still has to go to work, and I’m still in full-on mommy mode.  I need a break.  A vacation after my vacation.  We’ll see if I can manage it this weekend.  I already have a haircut scheduled on Saturday, and I’m hoping to add some indulgences to that list, like a massage and a facial.  I really, really need a quiet day all to myself.  Let’s see if I can find the time to call and make the appointment, right?

Happy Thursday – Warmer Weather Ahead

By Goddess in Progress · Comments (6)·   February 5th, 2009

Happy ThursdayIt’s Happy Thursday, everyone! There really is something to celebrating the day-before-the-day-before the weekend, isn’t there?  Makes it feel like the week is really moving.

Anyways, what are you thinking about this Happy Thursday?  Something great going on?  Looking forward to something fun?  Or are you just glad this godforsaken week is nearly over?  Grab the Walter button, add your link to Mr. Linky, and link back here!

For me, I’m feeling a bit mixed, because we’re leaving for Florida tomorrow night?

I know, woe is me, right?  Who in their right mind would complain about leaving New England for Florida, especially in February?  And in some ways, I’m really looking forward to it.  My in-laws last night apologized because it’s been kind of “chilly” down there.  Yeah, like 65.  Please.  It’s NINE fricking degrees this morning, with a below-zero windchill.  There’s a foot of crusty old snow out in my yard and where the sidewalks should be.  I’m assuming they’re still there, but I haven’t seen them in at least a month.  It’s treacherous and slippery, and every time we get a few more inches, it’s harder to shovel because of all the crap underneath.  I can’t let the kids play outside, because there’s no way they could walk.  Hell, I can hardly let them walk to the car by themselves.  Too much ice.  So, yay for temperatures well above freezing!  We get to play outside without jackets!  There will be moisture in the air, so maybe their dry little cheeks won’t be so chapped!  Green grass!  The pool!  The beach!  Hooray!

Hate being bundled up

On the other hand… I’m still burned out from our long trip to Chicago in December. I’m not looking forward to the plane. I’m not looking forward to trying to find some arrangement for the kids to sleep.  I don’t want to be out of my own space for a week, sleeping on an uncomfortable guest bed.  Half the week will be staying at my in-laws’ place, half with my mom.  We all know that can have its good and bad parts.

On balance, of course, I’m sure it will be lots of fun.  And just plain nice to be away from jackets and hats and boots for a week.  But travel is always stressful, and I have a lot of packing and details to figure out.  So, that’s why I’m feeling a little ambivalent this Happy Thursday.  I guess I’m just looking forward to waking up in the warmth on Saturday morning!

And, if nothing else… it sure will be different than our trip last year, when the kids were only five months old.

Happy Thursday, eh?

By Goddess in Progress · Comments (4)·   January 29th, 2009

Happy ThursdayWelcome to another edition of Happy Thursday! Feel free to read the story behind this little blog party, or just jump right in.  How are you getting through the day-before-the-day-before the weekend?  Good week? Fun plans?  Or are you just glad it’s nearly the weekend?  Add your link to Mr. Linky, below!  And feel free to grab Walter, over there, and please link back here.

Today is Happy Thursday, indeed, because the Daddy is finally home from a business trip to Canada.  A two-day trip turned into a three-day one, and it was all to do something he knew wouldn’t fix the underlying problem, anyways.  Not a fun trip to the Frigid North for him, and certainly sad for us to miss out on quality Daddy time.  But, very late last night, he finally returned to balmy New England (seriously, it rained yesterday. WTF?!), and managed to not spin out on the highway on the way home.  The kids are excited to see him, I’m excited to see him.  And we hope he doesn’t have to go back any time soon.  No offense to the nice people of Winnipeg, but we’d rather be right here.

Happy Thursday – Is it the weekend, yet?

By Goddess in Progress · Comments (6)·   January 22nd, 2009

Happy ThursdayWelcome again to another edition of Happy Thursday! Play along and share how you’re getting through this Thursday.  Had a great week? Something fun planned for today?  Or are you just counting down the minutes until the weekend?  Feel free to grab the Walter button (please just link back here), add your link with Mr. Linky at the end of the post, and leave a comment.

Today, I am firmly in the “thank God it’s almost the weekend” camp.  After my Inaugural Adventure, I’m just plain exhausted.  Inadequate sleep while I was there, an insane amount of walking, a late-night flight home, and back to two toddlers who could really care less about all of that. In fact, I suspect they knew that I was considering taking the time-honored “nap when they nap” advice yesterday (something I almost never do).  And decided to fight that nap, tooth and nail.  I’m not sure there was a solid 20 minutes without at least one of them crying, fussing, or otherwise not sleeping.  One of the worst naps they’ve had in a long, long time, on a day when I really needed them to take a good one.  Ah yes, the joys.

Anyways, here I am.  Trying not to phone it in too badly, when I just want to curl up under a blanket and catch up on my DVR.  Putting my head down and plowing through until the weekend.  I hope my husband is aware that Saturday will most definitely be a “mommy sleep-in” day….

Happy Thursday

By Goddess in Progress · Comments (9)·   January 15th, 2009

Happy ThursdayHappy Thursday, everyone!  Please, play along (using Mr. Linky below) and let me know how you’re surviving this Happy Thursday!  Something good today? Something you’re looking forward to for the weekend?  Or are you just glad the week is nearly over?

I think I meet all three criteria.  Something good today: we’re trying out a new toddler-friendly playspace today.  It’s frigid here in New England, and April seems like a dream that will never come.  So a new indoor place to play is always welcome. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’m looking forward to this weekend for several reasons.  For one, we have friends coming to stay.  Good friends of M’s, and they’re newly engaged so I get to pick their brains about wedding stuff.  Always good times.  And then, on Sunday morning, I hop on a plane to Washington DC!  Could I be more excited?  I think not.

I’m also, honestly, glad this week is almost over.  I’ve felt a little overwhelmed this week.  To-do list piling up, feel like I’m way behind on responses, phone calls, emails, and the like.  I finally feel like I’m catching up and close to being under control.

And hey, with this view from my computer while I’m posting?  It’s a Happy Thursday, indeed.

Happy Thursday

By Goddess in Progress · Comments (14)·   January 8th, 2009

Happy ThursdayI’ve decided to start up a new feature here at Goddess in Progress: Happy Thursday!  For the whole story, check out the Happy Thursday page.  But, in short, it’s that time of the week to think of something that makes you happy!  Thursdays can seem tricky, the week is getting long and it’s not yet Friday.  But once you get through Thursday, you’re home free!

So, what makes your Happy Thursday this week?  Something fun from earlier in the week? A great activity planned for the day? Or are you just glad it’s almost the weekend?  Grab the Walter button, add your post to Mr. Linky (below).  And have a Happy Thursday!

For me, I’ve actually had a surprisingly good week.  Sad though it is to have M go back to work and see him less, it was actually nice to be back in my own routine with the kiddos. For whatever it’s worth, I sort of felt more in control.

And, it doesn’t hurt that my kids have started spontaneously playing with me and with each other in silly new ways.

Like chasing each other around the living room with blankets on their heads…

Rebecca with both blankets

Then lying down on the floor with them and giggling…

Lounging with blankies

And having a tickle fight… (I swear, they were both laughing hysterically, and when Rebecca got up to walk away, Daniel swatted her leg and made her come back for more.)

Tickle fight!

And playing peekaboo with me while I’m on the computer (leaving lots of comments – holy crap, you guys were awesome yesterday, and it took a TON of time to leave comments back for you!)

Please, play along with Happy Thursday!
